Story behind the song
A Cranberry Sauce Intervisioner (Clickety Clonk) The Earth is only approximately spherical. Apparently it is slightly oval shaped. To be exact it is an oblate spheroid. When I was a kid I had a bicycle that was in a wreck and the front wheel became misshapen. When I rode it, the wheel hit the frame and it went 'clickety-clonk'. While having a turkey dinner around the family table (complete with all the trimmings that included cranberry sauce) I recall the topic being raised that a well known politician in New Zealand (who had made a lot of money on the stock market) had been caught in a compromising situation with their secretary. Outwardly they had appeared to be well rounded, but in reality... not so much. 'Clickety clonk on oval' I thought to myself. They probably led a very ordinary life. Ate breakfast. Shaved. Enjoyed Chip Shop meals. Commuted to the office in their car. Drank tea. But what was really going on? Is anything or anybody perfectly rounded? The earth isn't. I'm not. My bicycle wheel wasn't. Is anybody? Such were some of the thoughts behind this adolescent ditty composed on the piano in the front room of my family home. This recording was made some years later on a Teac A 3340 4 track reel to reel machine with a slightly wonky spool. Clickety Clonk on Oval. Clickety Clonk on Oval.
